ⓋTeresa. 20. I'm in awe of the power of plant foods. I share information about plant-based nutrition, yoga, running, and other subjects that manifest well being. “The body is always trying to restore health every microsecond of our lives. On the Today Show, Chloe Coscarelli was promoting her book Chloe’s Vegan Desserts by demonstrating some of her recipes. Some of the ingredients: white sugar, graham crackers, agave.

Besides the obvious unhealthy ingredients (technically vegan), I was bothered that she kept saying “low fat” and “low calorie.” Al Roker and the other woman on the segment were gladly eating everything up, since they were under the impression that since the treats were vegan, they’re also healthy. Not so.

My boyfriend (who’s moving towards a plant-based diet) made a good comment: “Desserts are the easiest thing to make vegan. Show me how to make real meals.” I’m afraid that this one little segment on a national TV  will perpetuate one stereotype that vegans tend to eat faux meats and other vegan junk food. Some do, but for the truly enlightened, that’s not the case.

Thoughts on this?

I hate when people assume that everything vegan is healthy.
